Although my family has only lived in the District since 2019 (we lived for the prior 36 years in Northern Virginia), we have found a community here in Forrest Hills and call it our home. The neighborhood has a vibrancy that I love and the people and stores and services and its proximity to the greater District are things I value.

 

While we lived in Northern Virginia, I served on several homeowner associations and did community volunteering. Naturally, I looked for opportunities for volunteering when we moved here, but COVID cut short most of the traditional ones. When DC Water started its sewer relining project in the Soapstone Valley behind my apartment, I assisted the community effort to inform the department of our concerns. When the District initiated its planning for traffic on Connecticut Ave, I volunteered my time with the community involvement with DDOT. I worked with our ANC commissioner and community members on other projects including park restoration and maintenance efforts, pedestrian safety and providing services and assistance to residents.

 

When the opportunity to serve on the ANC presented itself in 2022, I welcomed the opportunity to broaden my roles in serving the community. Since my election, I have committed myself to bringing services to address the needs of the community, working closely with other ANC commissioners, members and staffs of the city council, District departments and the Mayor’s office and apartment managers and tenant associations, and community leaders.

My continuing concerns and the focus of my work as Commissioner are public safety and access to services, maintenance and expansion of community resources, and the economic wellbeing of the community. I have assisted with the maintenance of the Forest Hills Park and Linnean Park and the Soapstone Valley trail, have lobbied for increase sidewalks in the ANC, crosswalks and other traffic-calming measures, coordinated closely with DC Water, DDOT, DOEE and other District departments on their projects in the ANC, and assisted community businesses and residents navigating their efforts to obtain city services, application approvals, and information.
